Dr. John Holliday

Dr. John C. Holliday is an internationally acclaimed expert in mycology, biotechnology, and mechanical engineering. With more than four decades of experience, he has combined science, engineering, and entrepreneurship to advance the fields of medicinal mushroom cultivation and applied mycology.

Since 2018, Dr. Holliday has led Mushroom Consulting LLC, where he has designed, built, and advised on over 100 mushroom farms in more than 20 countries, supporting projects in edible mushrooms, medicinal applications, and industrial biotechnology such as alternative proteins.

He is best known as the Founder and President of Aloha Medicinals Inc., a Nevada-based biotechnology manufacturer that became the world’s foremost producer of medicinal mushroom raw materials and dietary supplements. Under his leadership, Aloha Medicinals expanded into more than 65 countries, grew at over 25% annually, and established branches in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Mexico. His achievements earned him the U.S. Department of Commerce Small Business Exporter of the Year Award (2008, 2009) and the Nevada Governor’s Award for Business (2008).

Dr. Holliday’s background in mechanical engineering includes advanced machinery design for industries such as aerospace, energy, and defense, including projects for the U.S. Navy. In recognition of his groundbreaking work on the medicinal mushroom Agaricus blazei, he was awarded a PhD (Honoris Causa) in Mycological Pharmacology by Zhejiang University, China (1998).

He has authored dozens of scientific articles, contributed to standard reference texts such as the Encyclopedia of Dietary Supplements, and holds multiple U.S. patents. Dr. Holliday also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms.

As Vice President of the International Society for Medicinal Mushrooms and the African Society for Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms, and as advisor to governments worldwide, Dr. Holliday remains a leading voice in mushroom science, biotechnology, and sustainable agricultural innovation. He has lectured at prestigious institutions including Harvard Medical School, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, and universities across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
